Coalitions for Change Gets Extension

26th May, 2010

Following a positive review by DFID, the Coalitions for Change (C4C) Programme has been extended by a further 18 months to the end of October 2011. During the extension C4C will continue its support to five coalitions implementing issue base projects working for greater accountability in public procurement process, constitutional reform, gender affirmative action, the rights of persons with disability and action on climate change. There will be greater attention to supporting partners to sustain the Issue Based Approach (IBA).
The key features of the Issue Based Approach, which is the ‘new way of working’ that C4C has facilitated include:
• Defining and tackling a key issue at a time
• The issue must have ‘traction’- broad acceptance by the public and therefore seen as important to drive institutional change
• Socially inclusive; minoritised voices must participate and issues selected are relevant to their lived reality
• Partnership; where government and non government actors work together
• New ‘spaces for connection of voices’ created; concerned with how we get others to adopt the Issue Based Approach (IBA)
• Reflection; documenting and disseminating lessons
