It is universally acknowledged that change is the only constant. The challenge however remains how to facilitate and sustain positive change. Throughout history, people have continued to be the main vehicle for propagating the desired change.
From April 2007 – April 2010 C4C evolved a deliberate strategy to identify & support champions of change; individuals in government, civil society, media & private sector who have a passion for positive change. Champions of change help drive institutional change in their various spheres of influences. They are key to the programme’s success stories. To mark the end of the first phase of the Programme a lessons sharing event was held on the 29th of April 2010 at the International Conference Centre, Abuja. This event also presented an opportunity to affirm the change champions for their contribution to the successes and learning.
The eight Issue Based Projects shared with the audience their contributions to ensuring effective management of public resources and stronger formal accountability. The event enabled two of the issue based projects the opportunity to represent their published works. Gender and Affirmative Action presented a documentation about the 2007 elections titled Election Herstories; Political experience of women in Nigeria, and a Docudrama for radio and television . The Extractive Industries coalition EIRTI presented its research work; End - to - End Research on the Nigerian Extractive Industries. The work is a simplified yet detailed information about the processes in the extractive industries .
The Youth internship lessons were shared at the event. This is important as we think about the future and work to build a critical mass of champions of change.
